One of the most important aspects of any movie is the soundtrack. The music provides almost another actor in telling the story on the screen. That is why when the soundtrack is bad, it can distract from the entire movie. That is why I have picked "Soundtracks" for this week's I F**king Hate installment.
We have all been there. Sitting enrapt in the dark in the movie theater waiting for that huge moment in the film, but suddenly, the most distracting music starts playing...and all you can think is, "Why in the hell did that pick THAT?" Or the soundtrack is so boring, so uncreative...especially for period movies that recycle the same songs as every other movie representing that era or decade.
Soundtracks IFH:
"Brokeback Mountain": that repetitive guitar music just got to me eventually. It always felt like it never got going. I know, I know, the score won an Academy Award, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.
"A Knight’s Tale": for some reason, I don’t like anachronistic soundtracks. This movie had rock songs in medieval dance scenes....ugh.
"Happy Feet": I just didn’t get it. The musical numbers in this movie were just too distracting for me. What is with the love penguins these days, anyway? Did I miss a "what is cute memo" or something?
Just about any cartoon soundtrack performed by Elton John or Randy Newman.
You don’t have to pick a whole score or soundtrack...what song did you find distracting in a movie and why?
