Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not intend to vote for the Iraq deal reached yesterday by the White House and Congress while still praising the deal.
House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-WI) insisted that "we intend to continue that fight" for an Iraq timeline "on every vehicle available to us."
Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) called the deal "the beginning of the end of the president’s policy in Iraq."
It sounds to me that our "leaders", who are also giving Bush the funds he needs to carry on with the war in Iraq until he leaves office, have become complicit with him, abandoning all who oppose this insane war.
Listen to this twaddle from our "leaders"
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) confirmed at a press conference yesterday that she does not intend to vote for the Iraq deal reached yesterday by the White House and Congress while still praising the deal as "a recognition by the administration that a new direction was called for by the American people."
To recapitulate: Nancy isn't voting for a deal she praises. Obey, after surrendering to Bush, contradicts himself by stating he intends to continue the fight, while DLC leader Rahm, grandiloquently calls the Democrat's abject surrender "the beginning of the end of the president’s policy in Iraq."
Am I missing something? It sounds to me that our "leaders", who are also giving Bush the funds he needs to carry on with the war in Iraq until he leaves office, have become complicit with him, abandoning all who oppose this insane war. By lacking the moral courage to stand up for what they believe in in the face of a Bush veto, they have become his partners. How do they think they can take him on in September?
I have never been so angry or ashamed of being a Democrat. It's time for all of us who helped elect the Democratic majority last fall to become insurgents. We need to communicate our disgust to the Democratic leadership, especially the DLC Republican lookalikes, and to encourage war opponents such as General Clark or Russ Feingold to enter the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.
