This is one of the GOP talking points that uninformed (or poorly informed) GOPers trot out when faced with Gonzogate. It is so easy to refute this talking point, yet I haven't seen anyone (at least who has been interviewed in the MSM) rebut it.
Meet me below the fold...
As we all know, just because the President is given the right to select the USAs (but not the exclusive right as they must be--pre-PATRIOT act--confirmed by Congress), he does not then have carte blanche to do with them as he pleases.
As we also know, if he were to fire only the black USAs, or only those who had not sworn a personal oath of allegiance to him, that would be illegal.
In the same manner, the President "serves at the pleasure of the electorate" . However, once having given the President the mandate--in an constitutionally appropriate manner--the public can not simply choose to "fire the President" at any time it wishes. But "the President serves at the pleasure of the electorate", so by GOOper logic, members of the electorate should be able to show up to the White House, pitchforks in hand, and force the President to leave office. After all, he does "serve at their pleasure", doesn't he?
