I would have voted no on today's Iraq War Supplemental Funding Bill. I am angry that the Democrats allowed it to pass. I'm tired of Democrats that go ducking and covering every time the Republicans go "Boo". Kudos to the No Voters. All 142 in the House and 14 in the Senate. To the rest, shame on you.
As I sit outside my boys bedroom digesting the days news, thoughts and emotions build like a nasty thunderhead. A couple of thoughts. Planning. Trust. Fortitude. Does the Democratic leadership exhibit any of these qualities?
A couple of months ago, when the original Iraq War Supplemental Bill was being hatched, did the leadership not see the veto coming? Did they not believe that Bush would do as he said he would? I have a sinking feeling that they didn't give any serious thought to that option. I just find it hard to believe that their plan in the event of a veto was to go belly up and pray for mercy.
Trust. To me, it's a heavy word. It is not something to be taken lightly. When people put their trust in you to do a job, you better get it done. No excuses. No, "I didn't want to be accused of being a pansy."We have too many of those amongst us Democrats, and we need to get them out of power. If the people put their trust in you to do the right thing and your faced with a formidable adversary, you must fight until your last breath is gone.
Fortitude. Who ever said that politics was going to be easy? We expect 18 year old kids to stay in Iraq and fight when faced with incredible odds, but we let our geezer leaders run like hell at the first sign of conflict? Disgust is too mellow a word to describe what I feel right now.
Kos got it right earlier today when he wrote that today's events should motivate every progressive to do more to change the state of politics in this country. My blood is boiling. How about you? What are you going to do?
