SUPPORT THE TROOPS!
That is the battle cry that defeated the cowardly democrats. It defeated them because it means you have to support anything that the troops have been ordered to do. Let's take a look at what supporting the troops means.
Support the pillaging of Iraq.
The troops are there to control Iraq's natural resources. Their top priority upon entering Baghdad was to secure the Oil Ministry building, while watching Baghdads museums and libraries burn. An American-written "Oil Law" is being strong-armed through the Iraqi parliament to guarantee big profits for US oil companies that will dominate a "council" that controls Iraq's oil.
Support violence against civilians
American rules of engagement in Iraq effectively inflict illegal collective punishment on the population. Soldiers frequently open fire on anyone who looks suspicious near an ambush site. Air strikes in densely populated areas frequently kill innocent civilians.
Support torture and murder
There is still no accounting for how many people are being tortured and killed in American-run prisons in Iraq. Tens of thousands are being held under brutal conditions, with no recourse.
Support a politicized officer corps
The Bush administration quickly removes and replaces officers who are not politically pliable. General Petraeus was willing to prolong a losing strategy. The officers he replaced were not. This process is filling the senior ranks of our armed forces with political toadies.
When a US politician has the courage to say that he does not support the troops unconditionally, then the day of our liberation from neo-fascist BushCo propaganda will dawn. Until then "support the troops" is just a code phrase for mindless support of neo-con war.
