As any followers of Bluegrass politics know, we now have our candidates for Governor, as Beshear - Mongiardo defeated Bruce Lunsford (Democratic Benedict Arnold) handily in the primary. Fletcher, the unelectable, indicted Governor, also managed to win outright, avoiding a messy runoff on the Republican side. Not that it will help him.
The first SUSA poll is out, and this is shaping up to be an incredible repudiation of the Fletcher brand of politics:
Beshear - D 62%
Fletcher - R 34%
Undecided 4%
Another stunning result is that Beshear is getting 36% of the GOP vote.
For more information (as always), check out Mark Nicholas' breakdown of results at the Bluegrass Report.
One final point: The GOP also decided to nominate the unelectable, arch-conservative Stan Lee for Attorney General, essentially handing that one to the Dems as well (one can assume at least). To my knowledge, no polling data yet on down ticket races.
