I posted this as a comment in another diary and have decided to post it as my own diary. I have been troubled by these events and would like to address the community at large.
Update: I've been informed that it was Democratic Underground. But my concerns remain.
I listened to a replay of Amy Goodman's interview with Ms Sheehan this morning on Democracy Now. She obliquely referred to a "well-known, supposedly liberal blog" as the impetus for her stepping back. Called an "attention whore" on that blog was the catalyst, the last straw.
Was that "well-known, supposedly liberal blog" us?
I read her letter here and responded in the comment section that she would be missed, Casey did not die in vain because of how many in the anti-war movement were moved by his story and her voice.
I tried to find the "culprit" who brazenly took advantage of a grieving mother, but have not been successful.
I have read many comments by "newbies" on other issues here who seem to be trolls from the wingnut sphere.
Was one of those trolls responsible?
Of course, there are plenty of unfeeling, impolite, condenscending and vitrioltic asses in elephant clothing who call themselves liberal. There are plenty of strident and unfeeling comments by dyed in the wool progressives here as well.
Regardless, I wish Cindy Sheehan well. The fight is not over. It is never over.
I have been "fighting" for peace since a child during Viet Nam. I didn't give up when the Paris Peace Accords were signed. I didn't give up the fight to ensure a woman's right to choose when Roe v Wade passed. I didn't give up when Nixon left office.
The "fight" for Peace will never stop as long as violence is used as a tool to advance agendas.
The "other side" never gave up to roll back the New Deal; it's been almost 70 years and they are still chipping away. The "other side" never gave up to roll back the laws that arose out of Watergate, Iran/Contra, and other restrictions imposed on them.
We win a "battle" and we think the game is over; we can just be happy and live our lives.
No, rust never sleeps and the erosion from that rust is continuing.
If the rust of violence and war never sleeps, neither should the anti-oxidizing effects of Peace.
Rest well, Cindy. Those of us on the night shift have your back.
