Yes this is a documented fact although it will be censored by RedState and others of their ilk. But they can't hide the truth forever. I can't wait until the Religious Right-Social Conservative Cabal realizes that it has to suck up to another Flip-Flopper (although not nearly as bad a Flip-Flopper as Romney) especially when it comes to abortion the one issue that turns them into frothing at the mouth rabid hysterical zealots. Fred Thompson also supported the McCain-Feingold bill which the Social Conservatives hate. He also supported John McCain over Bush in 2000 although that shouldn't be held against anybody.
The Republican party is disintegrating right in front of our eyes especially the Religious Right-Social Conservative wing of the party. They are so desperate that the majority of them are supporting an openly pro-choice candidate (Rudy Giuliani). Social Conservatives believe that Fred Thompson will be their savior from having to support a Mormon (Romney) , a Maverick (McCain) , an openly pro-choice and pro gay rights candidate (Giuliani) or any of the other 7 candidates who don't have a chance to win.
Fred Thompson just isn't the Social Conservative that the Religious Right had hoped for so now that he's obviously running his record will reveal that he is also somewhat of a flip-flopper although not anywhere near a Mitt Romney scale.
On abortion, both Thompson and Cooper are pro-choice. But Thompson favors parental notification, Cooper voted against it.
Fred Thompson Was Critical to McCain-Feingold
Conservatives who think Fred Thompson is the answer to their dreams should take a look at Sen. John McCain's comments after the Senate passed the McCain-Feingold bill.
Conservatives hate McCain-Feingold almost as much as pro-choice measures. Yet Thompson, who is on the brink of announcing his presidential bid, was one of the original sponsors of the campaign finance bill.
Following the Senate vote of 59 to 41 for the bill on April 2, 2001, McCain held a press conference at the Capitol. With Thompson present, McCain named him and a few other senators as being so important to the bill's success that it would not have passed without their efforts.
Along with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Thompson negotiated a compromise on the maximum amount an individual can give to any candidate per election. That limit, adjusted for inflation, is now $2,300, subject to an aggregate limit that includes other types of campaign contributions.
McCain called the compromise "critical" to getting the bill passed.
The Right to Life Lobby vs. McCain (They're not fighting about abortion.)
McCain has a major problem with the nation's largest and most influential anti-abortion advocacy organization, the National Right to Life Committee. And the source of that problem is . . . not abortion at all. It's the McCain-Feingold Act, that set of restrictions on political advertising during election seasons that McCain (along with a number of Democrats) started pushing in 1995 and succeeded in enacting into federal law in 2002.
The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) regards McCain-Feingold as a major hindrance to its mission of pro-life advocacy--and, pari passu, McCain himself as something close to a personal enemy. A so-far-successful constitutional challenge to a key portion of McCain-Feingold mounted by an NRLC affiliate, Wisconsin Right to Life, is pending in the Supreme Court, with oral argument set for Wednesday, April 25. At issue is a provision banning ads that mention the names of candidates for public office within certain "blackout periods" ranging from 30 to 60 days before an election--if funds from corporations or unions are used to pay for the ads. Abortion is the kind of neuralgic issue that most large corporations--the kind of influence-peddlers that are presumably the target of McCain-Feingold--tend to shy away from, and most donors to the NRLC and its affiliates are individuals of modest means and strong religious beliefs. Nonetheless, a small percentage of the NRLC's donations--a little over 2 percent--come from corporations (including nonprofits) and religious organizations (the figure is from the year 2003, when the NRLC took in $13.6 million in contributions, including $295,124 from corporations and organizations, according to its lawyers).

McCain picks up Thompson endorsement
Sen. John McCain's bid for the Republican 2000 presidential nomination got a boost Wednesday when he was endorsed by fellow Sen. Fred Thompson, who joined McCain's campaign as national co-chairman.
"When it comes to personal courage and integrity and the courage to do what he thinks is right, regardless of whether or not it's particularly popular at the moment, John McCain has shown characteristics of leadership like no one else I've ever seen," Thompson said at a press conference.
Thompson, a Tennessee Republican, and McCain are both independent minded senators who have bucked their party, most notably on the issue of campaign finance reform. McCain has repeatedly sponsored a campaign finance reform bill with Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wisconsin) to ban the so-called "soft money" donated to political parties and Thompson has endorsed his efforts.
When it comes to reform of the way Washington does business, John McCain is the leader," Thompson said.
The Social Conservatives hate John McCain and Thompson is historically closely tied to him. Whether the Religious Right wants to admit it or not he is not one of them although they will prefer him to a Mormon which they believe is a cult not a religion. I wonder what the Social conservatives will think about his very young hot second wife who is 26 years younger than he is.
While serving as Senator he was romantically involved for 3 years with Country Music Star Lorrie Morgan who is 18 years younger than good old Cradle Robbing Fred is. Lorrie Morgan has been married 5 times and is well known for her turbulent private life. I was never a fan of Country music but she used to dress up in full bodysuit black spandex outfits in the mid 1990's while she was performing and she looked very hot. It's funny that this was the same time period that old Fred was going out with her.
Loretta Lynn "Lorrie" Morgan's Personal life
Morgan is known for her turbulent personal life -- she told Larry King in an interview that "drama is something that lets you know you're still alive." As of 2006, she is married to singer Sammy Kershaw; they were separated at one point but apparently have since reconciled. Kershaw is her fifth husband; she was married to country singer Keith Whitley from 1986 until his death in 1989. They had one child together, a son, Jesse Keith Whitley, born in 1987. She also has a daughter Morgan from her first marriage. Prior to Kershaw she was involved in a lengthy relationship with Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Troy Aikman.
Morgan was also romantically linked from 1994 to 1996 with Fred Dalton Thompson, the actor, lobbyist, former U.S. Senator from Tennessee, and possible 2008 Republican Presidential candidate. In her autobiography Forever Yours, Faithfully: My Love Story, Morgan describes their relationship:
" It was great to go out with an older man [Fred Thompson] who was very successful on his own.... For a while, I enjoyed my first exposure to politics. It was interesting to hear about political conversations, and people even began talking about Fred as a potential president.... I put myself to the task of being a great companion to a stimulating and important man, and as a result I become boring.... I had to stop and think about the political implications of everything before I uttered a word in public.... For a while, I wanted to marry Fred, but I knew he could not accept me as I am.
Lorrie Morgan on Larry King Live discussing Fred Thompson among other things.
It's obvious that he's not one of them since he's clearly enjoyed his Hollywood Celebrity but who can blame a man for that but the question is will the hypocrites who make up the majority of the Republican party make an issue out of his playboy jetset lifestyle. Will anything be said about his flip-flopping or Romney's for that matter one thing is for certain it will be fun to watch them.
