Seriously, because they hate them some Kurds, since they have not wiped them out like they almost did the Armenians, which was the biggest genocide of the last century, Turkey has invaded northern Iraq with several thousand troops according to the AP.
But here we go, let's watch Turkey piss away any hope of joing the EU!

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - Several thousand Turkish troops crossed into northern Iraq early Wednesday to chase Kurdish guerrillas who operate from bases there, Turkish security officials told The Associated Press.
"It is not a major offensive and the number of troops is not in the tens of thousands," one of the officials told the AP by telephone. The official is based in southeast Turkey, where the military has been battling separatist Kurdish rebels since they took up arms in 1984.
The U.S. military said it could not confirm the reports but was "very concerned."
Yeah, I'd be concerned, because you know how the Ottoman's roll in this region. Usually on top of bones and blood, and broken promises. But seriously, how did a foreign country just roll into our protectorate state? Did we have nobody on the border? Did we just wave in several thousand Turkish troops like they were a sight-seeing tour?
They have sometimes shelled suspected rebel positions across the border.
Sounds like casus belli to me! Weeee! But seriously, this border sounds more open than the one over at Montana/Canada. And remember, they are shelling into positions where we are suppose to be providing border security.
Now here is what really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really pisses me off:
"We can't confirm a thing at this time, but we are looking into it and obviously we are very concerned," said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, a military spokesman in Baghdad.
Jesus monkey on a hope bean bag, what kind of dog and pony show are you guys running over there when a foreign force of several thousand can come into Iraq and you can't confirm a single thing! Lord help us if this were the Chinese, or the Russians, lucky it's just the Turks, who only have bloodlust for the Kurds.
But seriously, shouldn't we have someone on the border who would notice entire battalions of a foreign flag rolling into our proxy country?
For the love of all that is good and proper, if Turkey can waltz on in and attack the Kurds in a country we are supposedly providing security for, I demand a better puppet show, and I demand one now.
Update: Terrypinder says: The original source for this appears to be DEBKAFile...a not credible source. So maybe this is all smoke and mirrors, but odd that the AP doesn't reference the primary source.
Update: ivorybill:
We have an office in Kurdistan and run many programs there. I just spoke to some of our contacts, and there is no major invasion going on. The Turks are shelling some mountains along the border (Barwari Bala, Baradost, Mizuri Zhori) more intensely than normal, and there are Turkish troops fighting near the border. However, this is not really all that unusual. It is an escalation, but certainly not an invasion.
The Iraqi Kurds are going about their business as normal, and nobody expects a major Turkish invasion. this is current information - 15 minutes ago.
So they are just shelling the country we are providing security for, nice.
UPDATE: Okay, all this bullshit about Turkey chasing the PKK is just that bullshit. Here is a the exact same shoe on another foot. Iran, tired of the Mujahedeen-e Khalq (MEK), an Iraq-based Iranian opposition group, coming across Iran's sovereign border and causing chaos and destruction decides to protect themselves. Thus, as per the defense of Turkey in the comments below, Iran should be abble to send several thousand troops into the Iraq to fight these terrorists (which we also list as terrorist btw.) What the hell do you think would happen?
