Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, in his role as President Bush’s number one "Yes Man", reminds me of the Nazi generals during their trials in Europe after World War II, when their number one answer was "I was following orders."
This is crap; Gonzales has consistently twisted the law to fit Bush’s interpretation or at least his wishes. He has created paths for torture and detention that are a violation of our nations laws; he has acted like the law and the Constitution are not enforceable on this President and his cohorts.
When he was deputy AG, his own Justice Department found that President Bush’s domestic surveillance program was illegal; he attempted to move heaven and earth to get then AG Ashcroft to authorize an extension of the program in direct violation of the law.
For years I have understood that our military bases around the world, like our embassies were considered American soil, and subject to the laws of the United States of America. Gonzales repeatedly has urged violation of our laws such as the denial of habeas corpus, and holding of prisoners without charging them, under auspices of a Presidential Directive signed by this President. What makes him think that just because the President wants, that the President gets? I want all the money in the Federal Reserve, but I can’t write a Citizens Directive authorizing it, no more than the President can write one that violates our laws.
He has as AG either refused or avoided pursuing prosecution of violations of civil rights and voting rights laws, torture or abuse of detainees, violation civilian privacy laws, violations by the FBI of the Patriot Act’s National Security Letter provisions. The list continues to grow, as new revelations are made daily.
Gonzales by twisting the laws, and circumventing the courts and his own Justice Department has given the term "Sleazy Lawyers" a whole new meaning. How has he managed to keep from being disbarred?
The much talked about "No Confidence Vote" is a waste of time, impeach, arrest and jail the sucker!
