I heard America screaming out for justice, so I recorded it.

I participate in a streetside protest on Sunday afternoons in front of the Chicago Art Institute in which we hold signs imploring people to honk if they want to impeach President Bush. This "video" features an hour's worth of honking from Sunday, June 17, 2007, compressed into 10 minutes. It is clear that Americans want Bush impeached. It is time for Congress to listen.
But it is also time for us to act. Americans are out there, like the driest of dry timber. They are just waiting to go up in flames. All they need is a spark to release all the energy they have been storing up for the past six years. It is time for us to be that spark. It is for us to incite them and push them toward what they want. We cannot just sit back and complain about their complacency. We must instead take action and do something about their complacency to turn it around and make it work. The people are waiting for us to break their spell.
And one way to do that is to get Americans to listen to themselves. Americans need to be made self-aware. As it is, Americans do not realize how much their fellow Americans share their displeasure with the state of things in this country. But if Americans can be induced to speak out, say by honking to impeach Bush, then not only do people get to express themselves, but they also get to hear other Americans expressing themselves. This is key. They get to hear that they are not alone. They get to hear that almost everyone agrees with them that Bush needs to go. When they hear that, their complacency will fall. They will thrill with the idea of working together toward a common cause. All they need is to learn that their cause is common and shared by everyone around them.
So if you really want Bush impeached, by all means, keep working on Congress, BUT DO NOT FORGET THE PEOPLE DOWN BELOW!! Turn to them, tend to them, cultivate them, make them grow, and bring forth the fruit that only they can bring forth. Before you can reap, you must sow. The necessary ingredients are few:
1 Sign that says "Honk to Impeach"
1 Busy street corner
1 Brave person to hold the sign on the street corner
If you multiply the number of signs and people up to about 5, you can increase your result, but having more than that is superfluous.
So get out there and rile the people up. You'll find that they are dying to be riled up. All they need is the spark. Be the spark. The people are the only way to impeachment. If we forget them, we can forget about impeachment.
And while you're out there, you might go ahead and record the honking too. It's good to have some empirical results to back up all the theory on impeachment. Someone was calling for a poll on impeachment a few days ago. Well, there's your poll up above. Americans want Bush impeached.
And for those of you who will be at Yearly Kos this year, I invite you to join us on Sunday, from 1:30 to 3:30 in front of the Art Institute on Michigan Avenue, just so you can hear America for yourself first-hand. We have some signs you can use, but it would probably be best to bring your own. Big letters are best. All are welcome.f
