With all the talk about parliamentary procedure in the U.S. Congress, at least the PA legislature is getting things done. This week, they managed to pass several resolutions, most notably, designating this Saturday to be Jimmy Buffett Day in Pennsylvania. And it gets better than that...
Nothing captures the Jimmy Buffett style better than tersely-written legislation:
...WHEREAS, Beloved by the faithful fans who turn out year after year for his consistently sold-out concerts, Jimmy Buffett lets his Gulf Coast persona shine through in his music and helps others escape life’s twists and turns for a short time; and
WHEREAS, Jimmy Buffett’s enjoyable music and good-natured personality attract music lovers from all backgrounds; ...
It really only leaves me with two questions. I’ll leave them as open discussion topics.
First, who wants to fill me in on the 10 assholes that actually voted "No" on this resolution?
Last, regardless of the text of the resolution, Buffett is basically the definition of white-boy-drinking music. Why would they, in the same legislative day, pass a resolution declaring June to be Black Music Month, which passed unanimously, I might add. (I won’t even address the weirdness of declaring June to be Black Music Month when June is more than half over.)
Any thoughts out there? Fill me in.
