As many of you agree, impeachment should be on the table, or rather, it should have happened already. To say that impeachment is off the table and leave it at that sends the message that the speaker of the house has abdicated her duty to check the administration in the event that high crimes and misdemeanors are uncovered. Unless it is made clear that congress will persue every avenue to deal with this rogue administration, with the endless list of high crimes that are repeatedly uncovered, our speaker has not accepted the job her colleagues have given her.
Should we be surprised of admissions of caging the vote in 2004? Does it matter if there is no consequence? Peeling away the lower layers of government doesn't address the real crime and culprits.
I am happy with the accomplishments of the new congress. They are doing SO much better than the last, but part of me died when impeachment was stated to be "off the table." I haven't recovered, and I won't until it is addressed again.
I go through the motions of supporting our fine candidates and pushing Al Gore to join in the race, but the constitutional crisis of my lifetime has already occured and as Democrats we did not stand united.
I will be at a Democratic meeting tonight. I will check the poll and comments later. For now I will hope for better days and not the decline into totalitarianism that many of us fear.
