Wyoming Governor Freudenthal has selected Dr. John Barrasso to fill the Senate seat vacated when Craig Thomas passed away on June 4th.
He sounds like somebody we'll all love to hate in the very near future.
"I believe in limited government, lower taxes, less spending, traditional family values, local control and a strong national defense," he said in his application. "In the state Senate, in addition to receiving an 'A' rating from the NRA, I have voted for prayer in schools, against gay marriage and have sponsored legislation to protect the sanctity of life."
CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Wyoming's governor appointed state Sen. John Barrasso on Friday to temporarily replace the late U.S. Sen. Craig Thomas in Washington.
Barrasso, an orthopedic surgeon from Casper, will serve until the beginning of 2009. A special election in November 2008 will decide who will finish Thomas' term through 2012.

This diary by Fredo announced the 3 choices and gives a little info about Barrasso including the fact that, even though he's a doctor, he doesn't believe in global warming.

Barrasso is a member of the Wyoming National Guard and considers himself "pro-life"
Barrasso is considered a "conservative" and is "pro-life," although he has changed his position on this issue. He previously ran unsuccessfully for the Republican nomination for the Senate in 1996 for the seat vacated by the moderate Alan K. Simpson of Cody, an abortion-rights supporter. In 1996, Barrasso had characterized himself as "pro-choice." He lost the primary to anti-abortion advocate Mike Enzi. He has received an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association.
