While assigned to the news anchor's chair for MSNBC's Morning Joe program (the one that has largely replaced Imus) Mika Brzezinski protested the choice of leading the morning news with the Paris Hilton non-story by attempting to burn the script she was supposed to read and eventually tearing it up while live on the air.
So far as I can tell, this is only being covered in the US by MSNBC itself, but it is also making news around the world including on the BBC website.
Here's the MSNBC video as edited by the BBC, and the original as presented on the MSNBC website.
Why did she do it? Well, in this interview of Ms. Brzezinski by MSNBC's Willie Geist, she explains:
"I just couldn't get it out. I felt... I just felt stupid. I felt stupid leading with Paris."
Kudos to Ms. Brzezinski for a job well done. I'm not a big fan of Joe Scarborough, but I'm now a fan of Mika's.
Is CBS looking for another woman to sit in their Evening News anchor chair?
