This will be a short entry.
As of yesterday, the Pentagon has reported 100 U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines dead so far in the month of June. This comes on the heels of a bloody May and a bloody April. The surge is working, just like it did in Vietnam.
More troops = more deaths, not fewer. You'd think we would have learned our lesson about escalation in Vietnam. Guess not.
Meanwhile, at DailyKos, we fall into the trap of Monday morning quarterbacking the war... again.
Frankly, I don't care if re-instating the draft and sending a million troops and spending $10 trillion would have won the war. All discussions of strategy are pointless. The war never should have happened. Not one drop of blood should have been spilled, not one dime of treasure squandered. The war was wrong. We invaded a sovereign country that had done nothing to us to steal their oil and so that Halliburton and Blackwater could steal our hard-earned tax monies.
The only discussions worth having on the war are tactical in nature: How the fuck do we end it? How do we get the media to keep it front and center until we stop the killing and the plunder? How do we get our nation on the right track, spending our money on peace: getting renewable energy sources up and running, educating our children, providing care for our sick?
When the effects of this evil war land on our shores, when our dollar is worth more as toilet paper than as currency, when our social order tears at the seams, when fascism really does manifest itself as the "solution," we will deserve it because we, even we at DKos, have not done nearly enough to stop the madness.
FUCK. THE. WAR. and the people who started it.
RIP, my 100 American brothers and sisters so far sacrificed for Halliburton's profits this month. RIP, thousands of other Americans. RIP, countless Iraqis. Sorry I wasn't able to get people to give enough of a shit.
