So Nancy doesn't care about protecting the constitution (unless she knows for sure she can win the fight). Now, I was just reading Americablog and John Aravosis dropped this gem on us: Nancy doesn't care about privacy issues either.
Hmm. Won't defund the war. Won't defend the constitution. Won't defend privacy.
So uh, what does Nancy care about?
Lets take a look...
What does Nancy say she cares about? Wow, lots of stuff.
What does she care about enough to put her name on? Uh...
- [110th] H.RES.15 : Mourning the passing of President Gerald Rudolph Ford and celebrating his leadership and service to the people of the United States.
- [110th] H.RES.61 : Observing the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., and encouraging the people of the United States to observe the Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., and the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and for other purposes.
- [110th] H.RES.180 : Honoring the life and achievements of Leo T. McCarthy and expressing profound sorrow on his death.
- [110th] H.RES.361 : Recognizing and honoring Jack Valenti and expressing the condolences of the House of Representatives to his family on his death.
- [110th] H.RES.406 : Celebrating the accomplishments of title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, also known as the Patsy Takemoto Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act, and recognizing the need to continue pursuing the goal of educational opportunities for women and girls.
- [110th] H.R.406 : To posthumously award a Congressional Gold Medal to Alice Paul in recognition of her role in the women's suffrage movement and in advancing equal rights for women.
- [110th] H.R.625 : To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 4230 Maine Avenue in Baldwin Park, California, as the "Atanacio Haro-Marin Post Office".
Well no wonder. She's so busy co-sponsoring resolutions to recognize people's deaths that she just doesn't have the time in her busy schedule to, you know, put her name on something worthwhile.
"But she's the Speaker," you say. "She doesn't do such lowly things like sponsoring or co-sponsoring legislation!" Well, Denny Hastert found time between stuffing his face with twinkies and snorting blow off dead hookers to sponsor a couple of actual bills that did actual stuff. If the king of the Do-nothing 109th Congress can muster his bloated body out of his suspensor suit to sign on for some legislation, you'd think Nancy could put her name on something.
But I guess it wouldn't be worth it.
(UPDATE):
There seems to be some confusion in the comments. My complaint is not that the above list is a bunch of pointless crap. My complaint is that the above list is EVERY bill she has sponsored or co-sponsored so far in the 110th congress, with the exception of her four placeholder bills that currently have no content (the Speaker likes to hold the low numbers for their own bills, so she has, I believe, H.R. 7 through 10?).
I know they love to waste time with the above crap now and then, and thats fine. Its the legislative equivalent of fan service. The problem is, she's all talk and no walk. Respect is earned, never given, and if she wants some she should put her name behind some actual real legislation designed to do all the wonderful stuff she talks about on the page I linked.
Honestly, she should have had democratic staffers on overtime leading up to the elections so that they would have legislation ready to go for every bullet on her list. The fact that she talks big but didn't deliver the goods says a lot about why I don't think she's the right woman for the job.
