Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim is now the new sheriff in town.

But, this isn't about Slim or Gates or even the cattle call list of shameless hoarders they're competing for pole position on.
It's about how in the hell a country that borders us - which should be our strongest ally - can house someone that rich and yet have a populace who live on $5 a day. It's about how in the hell all we can think to do is treat it like it's a disease we might catch instead of like a neighbor we can help.
(more how the hell and less how on the big page)
I'm brief.
Our political opponents so often claim that they are somehow morally superior in their own interpretation spirituality - whatever its form - and yet they demonize their own suffering neighbors for doing exactly what any of us would do for our own families. And registered Republicans support these people out of some delusion that they're next in line for the spoils or something.
You can almost hear everyone fantasizing in the grocery isles:
Go, Bill! You can get 'em! Just you and me, right Billy?!
In what America is this ideology of indifference to the suffering of our own neighbors cool? How is that American? You know? Goddamn filthy elephant in my living room has never sat well with me. That or how God-fearing people can be fooled so easily into supporting such evil ideology and false prophetry of these damnable people.
And if prophetry wasn't a word, it is now.
I'm not really looking for an answer. Not even sure if my point is completely coherent. I just hate having another reason to feel like I'm celebrating the sins of a dirty, evil empire on Independence day. Or weren't. People need to bottle up this feeling and take a good whiff of it come election time.
In the mean time, I suppose I can just treat it kind of like Thanksgiving and take guilt-infested thanks that I'm not unlucky enough to live next door to me.
I know it's the 4th and this probably doesn't merit much discussion. But, I'm going to be around this thing for a while if anyone wants to chat.
