I don't know the sources rep, but the claim should be easily checkable. And this is how Bushboyz avoid a Constitutional Struggle. From Tuesday...
Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister: US will back Israeli strike on Iran
http://www.israeltoday.co.il/...
...Avigdor Lieberman said on Tuesday that he received the tacit blessing of Europe and the United States for an Israeli military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.
“If we start military operations against Iran alone, then Europe and the US will support us,” Lieberman told Army Radio following a meeting earlier in the week with NATO and European Union officials.
So that's one part of the story. Now, remember back to the beginning of '07, there were all these stories of Generals like Powell, Odom, military reports, Time magazine, all to the effect that the military would breakdown this summer.
In other words, in starting about now through the next 6 weeks, it would become apparent and indisputable that we've broken the military. All of a sudden all these Republicans Senators want our troops to leave, but actually not. They want to be seen as wanting the troops out, but they plan and vote to keep them there. Overstretched. What to make of that? Pure election considerations?
These are the Republicans who were saying we can't tell how the surge is going until September. Which the informed reader will notice is "a time after summer."
Along in the background, there's been the steady drumbeat of Iran did this, and Iran did that, most of the stories ludicrous on the face of it (Iran aiding al-qaeda, the Taliban, etc. Chinese weapons are found with the Taliban and that proves Iran is behind it.
Now just today, we get the Senate voting unanimously for the Lieberman-sponsored resolution, which is summarized as:
It is the sense of the senate that Iran is participating in acts of war against the United States.
just like Joe Lieberman said last week. So now we have a figleaf for a claim that war on Iran is authorized by Congress.
I'm guessing this: Let Israel hit Iran. Then the decay of the army will disappear, as will the army, in the "mighty" retaliation by Shi'a of 2 nations. Bingo! New war, state of emergency, terror attacks (say the Anthrax Terrorist comes out of retirement), rally the people for vengeance, end the Republic.
I know. First of all, it depends on if the weakly-sourced Israeli Minister statement was in fact said. Then it depends on if this is all just a tough-talk strategy. Problem is, Bush and his Band of Crackpots were serious about Iraq, and are serious about Iran. So there's certainly some verisimilitude in the story.
Whether a war has definitely been decided upon or not is one thing. At the very least: How scary is it that the scenario of Bush getting our troops killed and captured, widening the war, all to save his own ass, is plausible? If not likely.

Regretfully, I must go away now. I'm just hoping someone will keep the questions going, because, frankly, I don't see any long term out for Bush but extreme chaos.
