with its wild exaggerations and hypocritical sanctimony
Today, while reading Salon, I found a blurb by Camille Paglia trashing Al Gore and global warming. She considers herself a Liberal. Odd, I thought everybody on our side understood the science, remembered their science classes which taught that global warming was happening and that global cooling was a side effect of this climate change. We have known this since the 70's.
She is responding to readers emails. This one in particular:
Subject: Al Gore Warm and Fuzzy
I am a nuclear engineer with 25 years' experience in nuclear operations, design and calculations.
I fully believe that the Earth is in a solar-induced warming trend.
We had a diary a couple of days ago about this very thing by plembo. Output from the Sun is going down, not up. I read about this almost a year ago. Remember this article: Don't Blame Sun for Global Warming, Study Says
Sunspots are magnetic disturbances that appear as cooler, dark patches on the sun's surface. The number of spots cycles over time, reaching a peak every 11 years.
He says that most climate models—including ones used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change—already incorporate the effects of the sun's waxing and waning power on Earth's weather
Back to Camille Paglia. You should read what she writes about impeachment. She sounds like Joe Scarborough or Tweety. If you haven't read the blurb or whole series of responses in that article. Here are a few more quotes:
This is wonderful! I burst out laughing at the self-divinizing apotheosis of that egregiously pulpit-pounding, wannabe preacher, the Rev. Al Gore.
the last thing the party needs in a presidential campaign where no-crap national security issues will be paramount. Environmentalism is of vital importance to our future, but it cannot be based on lies.
I don't know why, but this whole deny the science reminds me of Shoemaker. He was the first person, that I know of, who thought, these formations in the Earth's crust look like impact craters we see on the Moon. For years everybody thought the craters were natural. According to the Wiki, Shoemaker was able to make the link to asteroids impacting the Earth using the atomic bomb tests.
"This should settle the debate"
Imo, there never really was a debate about this. Just anti-science folks trying to keep the status quo for monetary reasons.
