Shameless. That's what I am doing. I'm not usually in the habit of asking for favors, let alone asking for money, but hey, what is a close knit family of 125 thousand people for if not to lend support?
My name is Bill, and I am running for Lansing City Council. Can you please spare 5 bucks to help me with my campaign?
Ok, so there are a lot of good causes on these here tubes. I understand that maybe you can't spare 5 bucks. Thanks anyway, I appreciate the thought, and maybe your well wishes. I don't want to take food off your table or take away from other charitable causes. Only if you can spare it.
But why support spartan68? You don't even know me. Maybe I'm a republican wolf in sheep's clothing. Maybe you just don't like overt asks for cash. Well, this is harder for me to write than for you to skip over it. I won't bother you again or clutter the recent diary list with syrupy emotion or screaming headlines. I just need a few dollars to help defray my own expenses. It is almost an entirely self funded campaign. I wouldn't ask any of you to do something I'm not doing myself. So far, I've racked up about $5,000 in expenses, and I have $50 my mom gave me to help.
What is the primary purpose of DailyKos? You all know it is to help get Democratic candidates elected. I qualify. Granted, I'm not a prolific diary writer and I've never been on the recommended list. You know if Hunter asked for some cash, we would be fighting over each other to post the first comment saying we gave. I'm just your typical poster, who until a couple weeks ago never had my own blog. I have been around for a long time, and contribute when and how I can on the site. I have come to be informed thanks to all of you, so really, if anyone owes anybody anything, I owe you. I've been inspired to actually run for office so thank you for all you have done. Markos, your creation, as you know is breeding the next generation of progressive, liberal Democrats to seek and take office.
I'm not a high profile candidate running for national office. Maybe someday, but not yet. I can offer you assurances that I won't be a corporate sell out. I am working for our neighborhoods and families. I really believe in the power of the internet and technology. Hell, I've seen us raise $10,000 in 15 minutes! I have set up a website for my constituents, along with a blog so they can participate in a dialog and make government as transparent and accessible as possible.
Plus it's Friday, so it's probably Pay Day for some of you. Even if you can't give, won't give, or plan to hunt me down and destroy me for blatant rules violations, stop by my site, add me to your blogroll, or leave a comment. Thanks for reading.
