There currently is an interesting diary on the Recommended List. It is by one Shaun McDonnell, who is an admitted right winger who has stated the following:
I voted for Bush and would do so again in a heartbeat.
I listen to Rush Limbaugh every single day and if I have to miss a show I listen to it later using the Rush 24/7 member service.
I cannot stand John McCain.
Ann Coulter makes me smile and laugh.
Olbermann might as well be a 4-letter word.
And in the comments to the diary, he engages in a civil, yet extremely right wing defense of his President, the Iraq War and conservatism and Republicanism in general.
Why is he on the Recommended List?
Because he defends Daily Kos against Bill O'Rielly. He wants O'Rielly to get back to discussing conservative issues. You know, like how best should the Iran War be waged and how to make the rich richer all the while limiting liberty and freedom in America.
So, I ask again, why is he on the Recommended List?
Well, because he is civil. He hasn't called us traitors or commies or baby killers. Not to our face anyway.
I am sorry, but in my opinion, there is no place on Daily Kos for the airing of right wing talking points or a defense of right wing ideals as I have seen in that diary. It disgusts me that it is on the Recommended List. It is as if we liberals are battered wives, and our batterer has said something nice to us for the first time in a long while, and so we are in love with him again.
The Right Wing is our enemy. They are evil and hateful. Their beliefs about America are unAmerican. Their ideals will destroy America.
Never should a defense of those ideals be given the time of day here at Daily Kos, no matter how civil. They get all of the media to spread their lies. Why should they have Daily Kos?
I know many will say that we should engage Republicans here if they are civil and that we should not behave against them as they behave against us.
I ask in response, why do you trust the good intentions of any Bush supporting conservative or Republican alive today? They will always screw you over for their political gain.
It reminds me of the story of the scorpion and the hare. The hare and the scorpion are at the rivers edge, and they must cross the river. The scorpion says to the hare, "hey, let me jump on your back so we can swim over together." The hare responds "No way, for if you get on my back, you will sting me and I will die."
The scorpion responds, "No I won't. I promise."
So the scorpion gets on the hare's back, the hare proceeds to swim across the river. Half way across, the scorpion stings the hare.
The hare, in his dying breath, says "WHY? Now we will both die."
The scorpion responds, "I am a scorpion. It is in my nature."
