I was trying to find what topic I should blog on today.
Should I blog on the all night debate in the Senate?
Nah, you know they're just showboating.
What about Bush's continuing to say he'll veto anything which resembles a move to get soldiers out of Iraq?
Nah. Too boring. Stay the course has been the battle cry even when the cliff was looming, and BushCo and the small percentage of the American public who still thinks he's doing a "hell of a job" will follow him off the next cliff, just like they did this one.
Ah, shall we blog on the differences in the candidates for President?
On the Democrats side, the top five really don't have a lot of differences, other than in character. I will tell you that I will never, never, never, vote for a candidate again who comes from a well to do family. If they weren't poor at one time in their life, they won't get my vote.
On the Republican side, with the exception of Ron Paul, they're all forcing themselves into costumes which look remarkably like Lemmings. And, yeah Rudy, we know you were the Mayor of New York on 9/11. That doesn't necessarily qualify you for the presidency.
What I am really going to blog about is a subject that may not be of interest to very many people, but it is to me and since this is my blog....
I am worried about my daughter.
She is a beautiful 22 year old girl, recently graduated from University of Texas with a double major and is eventually heading to law school. I have raised her to be semi-independent and she is about to leave for a two to three month trip to Europe (on her own money I might add).
Some of you are asking, "So what"?
I was in England before 9/11, and was treated extraordinarily kind by everyone there, the English as well as visitors from other countries. There was some good natured jesting about America, just as there was about the other countries but I could tell we were welcome visitors.
Will that be the reception my daughter gets? The London Subway was bombed a few years ago, and a mass murder plot was just foiled there. A car bomb was driven into the Glasgow airport. Trains in Spain were bombed in the not too distant past.
And my daughter is an All American girl.
As a parent I would worry about her anyway, but the actions of our "leaders" (both Democrat and Republican) have given me an extra level of concern.
And for what?
We've made rich people richer, destroyed a country so that rich people could make even more money rebuilding it, caused oil prices to skyrocket, killed thousands of them, have had thousands of us maimed and killed, and accomplished jack squat.
And now I have to worry about my baby girl, because she wants to see more of the world.
This just sucks.
