Sharp's solar streetlights produce 1800 lumens and double as earthquake sensors. Any tremor over 5 on the Richter scale will activate the lights for up to 48 hours of continuous use. The lights are designed with less light pollution, more light falls on the ground so the skies can stay dark enough to show off the stars.
Cost, availability, and performance are yet to be determined.
