This is a heartbreaking story. A nine year old little boy who lives in a FEMA trailer park in Pascagoula Mississippi was playing in the woods with his friends when they found a duffel bag.
Being boys they were curious. A coke bottle looked harmless enough until it exploded. Isaiah had trouble breathing but the worst damage was the chemical burns on his face. Burns that could cost him his eyesight.
He was then sent to the Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital, also in Birmingham, where a specialist told Polk Isaiah's eye prognosis is dim.
"He will probably lose his left eye and they said if that happens he'll have to have a glass," Polk said as tears filled her eyes. "But they are hopeful he'll keep his right eye," she said as she gently caressed her son's head.
Isaiah's family doesn't have insurance. His Mom has applied for Medicaid but she worries that it will not be enough. The Isaiah Polk Benefit Fund has been set up at Hancock Bank.
Isaiah is an honor roll student with big plans for his future.
Polk and Isaiah leave for Jackson today to explore the possibility of corneal transplants in an effort to save his vision.
"I want to be a doctor," Isaiah said. "And I've always loved science. Somehow, I won't let this stop me."

We all know the danger of drugs. We warn our children not to use drugs. But I wonder how many people are aware that their children could wonder across a Meth dump site? I wasn't until today. I wonder how many of us knew that something as harmless looking as a coke bottle could be deadly? I didn't until today.
