Via ThinkProgress:
McConnell was honored to be asked [to be DNI], but he had serious reservations. He had been unimpressed with many aspects of the Bush administration and its conduct of the war on terror, particularly what he felt was a politicized use of intelligence in the lead-up to the Iraq war. [...]
"My sense of it is their political faith and convictions influenced how they took information and interpreted [it], how they picked up and interpreted outside events. ... I’ve read much more about the current set of players and they did set up a whole new interpretation because they didn’t like the answers. They’ve gotten results that in my view now have been disastrous," [McConnell said].
That's from the WaPost article about Stephen Hayes' new book on our dear VP. Hayes', chief staff writer for the Weekly Standard (aka Beacon of the Right Wing Noise Machine) had much more interesting things to say about our Administration's deliberate obfuscation of intelligence and its players for the run-up to the Iraqi War.
I admit I do not know enough about Hayes to make a worthwhile commentary on the guy, but judging from the laundry list of his erroneous commentaries, deliberate lies and outright obfuscations:

I'd say this revelation about the authors of this colossal Iraqi failure and deceit from our National Intel Director is interesting, to say the least. And given the fact that neocons such as Hayes are always thinking one step ahead for our next invasion, I can't help but wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Mike McConnell. Looks a lot like the boys whispering in Dubya's ear are wanting to burn yet another man who might think a wee bit differently than they do.
Strange how that seems to happen with those in this Administration who turn out to be correct.
Update:: In thinking more about this I wanted to make sure that I wasn't coming off like McConnell deserves a free pass for his statements. Quite the contrary - despite knowing full well about the false assertions and lies our Administration and it's newly intelligence-distorting branch via Feith were creating, McConnell felt honored enough to take the job. It's pathetic enough to hold the views of this neoconservative philosophy, but to acknowledge their lies and go along following them anyway is easily just as horrendous, if not more so.
