We are in the age of globalization.
Economic globalization is leading to a global market.
Scientific globalization allows the sharing of ideas across all borders.
Cultural globalization can be witnessed when we visit someone's blog from half a world away.
As we begin to make decisions on a global scale, what values are we using to make the decisions?
In some parts of the world, all decisions are made by one person.
Decisions are also being made in democratic ways.
No matter how the decisions are being made, we need to ask ourselves what values are being used when making the decisions.
If a dictator is racist, he or she might determine who will get food and medicine based on racist values.
If a democracy makes decisions based primarily on economic values, then economic values will determine who gets food and medicine.
In the Middle East, some people believe religious value is the best value to use when making decisions.
The "War on Terror" is largely a battle to determine what value will be most important in the Middle East and throughout the world.
Some people want military power to be the most important value so they can rule the land, people, and resources through force.
Some people want economic value to be the most important value so the people and companies with the most money will be able to own everything.
Some people want religious values to be most important so their religious leaders will make all decisions.
Many citizens want democratic values to be most important so all people and values are represented.
We have the ability to live in peace.
