Going to Yearly Kos, or know someone who is? If you will be there Wednesday night, I encourage you to attend our DFA Health Care for America Forum "What's the SiCKO Solution?"
This event is being organized by several of our local DFA groups, and we have some rock star speakers: Jim Dean, Chair of DFA; Claudia Fegan from Physicians for a National Health Care Program; John Bouman, Advocacy Director of the Sargent Shriver Center on Poverty Law; and Joe Moore, progressive Chicago Alderman and living wage advocate. Plus lots of our local DFAers (the coolest people on earth, BTW!) who can't necessarily afford to go to YK will be there. And, a little birdie named Ilya told me Kos health care blogger nyceve might be there as well.
The forum will be at the Unite HERE union hall, 333 S. Ashland Ave, Chicago, starting at 8:00 pm (after the PFAW reception). If you will have access to a car, there is plenty of free parking. If not, it is definitly cab-able from McCormick place, and you can take public transportation there as well.
More details below the fold ...

Speakers include:
Jim Dean, Chair of Democracy for America (DFA). Jim Dean recently launched DFA's "Health Care for America" campaign which includes mobilizing grassroots groups all over the country to organize local health care forums, "SiCKO" movie outings, and in-person lobbying with their elected officials. As chair of DFA, Jim Dean is committed to carrying on what his brother, Governor Howard Dean, started - strengthening grassroots participation and electing fiscally responsible and socially progressive candidates to all levels of government.
Dr. Claudia Fegan, Physicians for a National Health Care Plan (PNHP). Dr. Fegan is Director of Ambulatory Care at Provident Hospital in Chicago and was the past president of PNHP, a single issue organization advocating a universal, comprehensive single-payer national health program. PNHP has more than 14,000 members and chapters across the United States.
John Bouman, Advocacy Director of the Sargent Shriver Center on Poverty Law. Bouman joined the Shriver Center after 21 years at the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago where he worked at the Elderly Law Project. He led the successful statewide effort to create the Illinois FamilyCare program to provide health insurance to up to 300,000 working poor parents of minor children.
Joe Moore, Chicago Alderman. Moore serves on the City of Chicago Committee on Health, is chair of the National Democratic Municipal Officials Conference, is a DNC member, a noted peace activist, was the first elected official in Illinois to endorse Howard Dean for president, has been a DFA-List Candidate, and has had the dubious honor of introducing the only piece of legislation ever vetoed by a mayor named Daley -- the big-box living wage ordinance, which included a manditory provision for benefits for big-box employees.
Each panelist will present opening remarks, and then will take questions from the audience. We will end the evening with a DIRECT ACTION ACTIVITY that will send a message directly to our leaders in congress.

Hope to see you there! And if you can't make it, lots of DFA groups across the country are holding health care forums. You can look for one near you at http://www.dfalink.com.
You can also sign our DFA Health Care Petition and add your health care "horror story." We are planning to hand-deliver the petition signatures and the health care stories at congressional meetings being organized by local DFA groups.
