Who in their right mind would stay up and blog every 30 minutes over a 24 hour period? Key word = right mind! :)
Anyway, that person would be me! I am participating in Blogathon 2007 to raise money for ChemoAngels - a wonderful organization that I've been a part of for almost 2 years.
I've made reference to my goddaughter Lauren many times on Kos - she passed away March 2006 from Ewing's Sarcoma. She was 19 and got me started on my blogging career in 2002. Each year, my cousin Mary (Lauren's mom) and I participate in Blogathon on Lauren's honor and to help raise money for a cancer related cause.
It was Lauren who encouraged me to become a ChemoAngel. If you're not familiar with the program, here's its mission:
Chemo Angels is a volunteer organization dedicated to adding a ray of sunshine to the lives of those undergoing IV chemo treatment. We believe people going through the physical, emotional and mental rigors of chemotherapy deserve some encouragement. Many of our Chemo Angel volunteers are cancer survivors themselves, or people whose lives have been affected by cancer in some way. Our common denominator is a desire to brighten the lives of cancer patients while they are going through this challenging time.
They also have a program called Senior Angels doing the same thing for those who are in nursing homes. I am a member of both programs and each week I send a card or letter to someone I've been assigned. My mom was a recipient of ChemoAngel love when she underwent a mastectomy. She got over 60 cards from all over the country and was taken aback at the kindness of strangers. It made her day when the mail came and we hung each and every card around her room. It truly made a difference in her life at a time when she really needed a boost.
My blog is called Snarkypants and you can come visit and cheer me on as I do 24 hours of blogging every 30 minutes. :) You can also pledge money to Chemoangels using this link. You don't have to pay up now - it's just a pledge and you can send the funds when you have them. Any amount is gratefully appreciated. (Comments on the blog are too!)
The blogathon runs from 9am (eastern) Sat morning until 9am Sunday morning and there are over 530 other bloggers participating and raising money for their pet cause.
(There's even a whole Potterthon blog too!)
