Remember when the Democratic candidates decided not to show up for the Fox News debates because, well, that "network" is little more than a propaganda machine for the Bush Administration? When word got out about that, Fox News' response was to (instead of trying to assure the Democrats that they are fair and balanced) call them cowards. Of course, they were just following one of their bosses, who said:
"The candidates that can’t face Fox, can’t face Al Qaeda, and that’s what’s coming."
As Hunter mentioned before, Fox News couldn't take that they got a public whuppin' and decided to sick their dogs on the blogosphere (and here specifically). It's funny considering that no one even really talks about the Democrats shunning Fox News now (which tells you how much impact Fox News really has).
My Question on the Flip...
But I have a question for Fox News, and for the people who thought that Democrats were "afraid" to show up on that network: With only four Republicans committing themselves to participate in the CNN YouTube Debates, when are you going to start questioning the bravery of the GOP?
I could take a page from their book and say "Hey, if the GOP can't take questions from normal, average Americans, how can they command the respect of the American People as President?" Or how about, "What do Republicans have to fear from questions from Joe and Jane Doe?" But instead, I'll just wait for the original attackers to justify this latest turn of events
I've heard the excuses. Rudy Giuliani has a scheduling conflict (keep in mind this is the same guy who couldn't make the ISG Meetings; "red flag" much?) and Mitt Romney is scared of talking snowmen. Good thing CNN seems willing to adjust their schedules for them, right?
Wrong. These guys are still trying to hedge their bets, and who can blame them? Can you imagine any of these people trying to answer off-the-cuff questions poised by serious, politically-minded people? And that's the crux of the matter; Romney, Giuliani, and Co. aren't afraid of a cartoon hamster asking them questions...they're afraid of people asking them questions.
And yes, they're scared of the fact that technology allows the average American to come up in their home (aka, the political-pundit-journalistic world) like search warrants. Some have begun to take notice of this; you have GOP supporters begging the wannabes to get with the 21st Century. But who do you think "the old grey men in the old grey suits" are going to listen to: today's conservative or a dinosaur like Robert Novak?
You know when we did away with the monarchy and went through democracy, there was a lot of fear that this sort of thing would happen. It took 200 years but we got there. I thought it was really disgusting — more disgusting of course when everybody was saying, and you’re saying Margaret, they were better than the reporters. The reporters were terrible but this was ludicrous. Look at the person next to you, what’s nice about them and what’s not nice about them. But we have really reached the depths now.
That sounds like Romney/Giuliani thinking to me, but I'm just some yahoo with an internet connection. So again, I'm tossing it out to the "Democrats should go on Fox News" Crowd:
With only four Republicans committing themselves to participate in the CNN YouTube Debates, when are you going to start questioning the bravery of the GOP?
I won't hold my breath.
