I keep reading the following headlines: "White House Aide Won’t Answer Questions of a Senate Panel". What kind of wierd psycho world are we living in? Since when did the President of the United States, or any other member of the Executive Branch be exemp from accountability to the American people? And isn't it ironic that the very party that impeached and tried to remove a president against the wishes of the American party is the very party now claiming they are not accountable to answer to the American people and their duly elected officials. I repeat, What kind of wierd psycho world are we living in?"
The dictionary defines the word hypocrite as:
- a person who pretends to have virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that he or she does not actually possess, esp. a person whose actions belie stated beliefs.
- a person who feigns some desirable or publicly approved attitude, esp. one whose private life, opinions, or statements belie his or her public statements.
BINGO! If that doesn't describe Bush, Cheney and a huge chunk of the GOP party, I don't know what does.
Another observation: Those who were the most vocal leaders against Clinton, have conveniently vanished. Where is Asa Hutchinson's indignation over all the lies Bush and Cheney have deliberately told the American people to futher thier own agenda? Some of those critics have since left the GOP. Republican Bob Barr from Georgia is now advocating against the very guys he voted with to impeach Clinton although it seems he stops short of advocating impeachment of Bush, Cheney or Gonzales.
Today, whenever someone criticizes those lying cretins it is labeled as politics and not a valid argument. Well it's not politics when over 70% of the country has declared their will. I believe that's well over 2/3 rds of the voters. In fact it's almost 3/4ths of the voters for the mathmatically challenged. That's a much larger percentage than Bush got in either election.
What makes Bush's claim of Executive Privilege more valid than Nixon's? The Supreme Court? In the 70's, the highest court in the land wouldn't let Nixon get away with claiming executive privilege to hide his illegal activities. Who knows what today's court will do. But with 2 new Bushie members, it's highly possible maybe even very probable that they will side with Bush. And when they do, then our country is officially lost. Because if Our elected officials are not accountable to the Amercan people and their duly elected representatives and protected from doing so by the courts, then there is no freedom left in our country.
In 1776 we declared our freedom from the oppressive regime and laws of King George. The declaration of independence states:
That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.
When political party's policies consistently operate against what is in the best interest of the people of the United States, then it is time to replace them with ones that will. The GOP party has shown it is strictly of the Rich, for the rich and by the rich. The Democratic party attempts to portray themselves are true representatives of the people, but when given the ball instead of pressing on for the touchdown, they kneel down for 4 downs and run out the clock until 2008.
So who do we blame? How do we turn this around? Can we turn this around? I'm not sure anymore. If the American people are too lazy and too apathetic to care or participate then we deserve the consequences. There was a time when I didn't believe this to be true. However, today, everywhere I turn people justify thier lack of participation by claiming all politicians are the same or all politicians are liars as if that is a perfectly fine excuse for being too lazy to think for themselves. Perhaps the hypocrites are not just residing in the White House. Perhaps we are the hypocrites. Perhaps it is more important to us to read about Brittany Spears love life, than to take 5 minutes to look at a website for a war memorial to the troops that we "supposedly support". It is more appropriate to write about the misuse of commas or Hillary CLinton's cleavage than it is to write a few paragraphs or dedicate 60 seconds to brave americans who are lost forever to a country where barely 50% of its population actually vote.
It's easy to blame the politicians. But we, the people, are the ones holding the cards when we pay attention to what is going on and participate in this great exercise of liberty. We consistently say that we are looking for something to bring us together as a nation and work for the common good of the nation and yet when we have that very symbol that can inarguably can bring us together, we're too lazy or apathetic to care. Yes the quilt is a nice gesture but it's not important to either main stream media or the American people. Isn't it ironic that an anti-war peace activist is the one to create a memorial to those fallen in this political fiasco in Iraq.
