In response to a series of whiny diaries appearing on dailykos lamenting the complete and utter disregard of the netroots by the major presidential candidates, rumor has it that each candidate is going to spend 5 minutes of personal time with every blogger.
Every. Single. One.
And we're not just talking people at Yearly Kos... no. We're talking about everyone who reads liberal blogs or writes for any liberal blogs anywhere. I'm going to use my time for my (College) USD Democrats blog. And if any of the candidates back off on their promise I am going to write a hostile diary about that candidate and watch it catapult to the top of the Recommended Diaries list.
For a candidate to spend their time doing anything except making time for bloggers would make them impersonal and unlikeable by any reasonable standards. The only thing a presidential candidate needs these days are the netroots. Even if there was a non-blogger constituency it would take a lot of nerve and idiocy for a candidate to pursue it. We are the most exalted and righteous wing of the democratic party.
Okay I'm obviously being snarky. But why are we recommending diaries that are slamming candidates for not being able to make time for us? We are so incredibly lucky that all of the major candidates are even APPEARING at Yearly Kos. And now some of us, by recommending certain diaries, are encouraging people to write hostile diaries about candidates because the candidates aren't able to be everything to everyone.
The candidates are giving us their time and all we can do is complain about what they're not giving. Well I'm not holding my breath about this rumor that they are going to come and give all of us 5 minutes of their time. And you know what? I still love them all.
