That is the question I'm grappling with right now. What did they gain from this surrender? What possibly did the Democrats who voted for this nonsense gain?
Obviously politics is all about "gaining." It's all about getting, it's all about achieving.
So, my very simple question for any of the Democrats who voted for this thing is, what the fuck did you gain?
Did you gain cooperation from Bush for other pieces of legislation or policies? I hope that's not what they think, because then they are simply 23 different shades of "Bug-Fuck Stupid." Bush doesn't work with anyone. Rolling over and letting Bush walk all over you isn't going to make him more likely to be cooperative.
Did you defeat the myth of Democrats being "soft on terror"? Have you been in a coma for the last 20 years? Since when do "facts" have anything to do with how the media and Republicans portray Democrats? It's always about lies and misinformation and cutesy little slogans. They couldn't care less about the facts or the truth. Those things tend to be inconvenient to their goals of destroying Democrats and progressive ideals.
Did you serve your country, your constituents, and the freedoms our country supposedly is based on? Read the fucking bill again and try and answer that without shame.
So, I'm having trouble figuring out what you gained from this. However, I have absolutely no trouble at all figuring out what you lost.
You've lost the right to talk to us about concepts such as "freedom," "liberty," and "democracy."
You've lost the right to talk to us about accountability, about the Constitution, and about fighting for our rights.
You've lost the right to feign outrage when Bush, Cheney, Gonzales and anyone else in this farce of an Administration does something else to piss on the Constitution.
On that note, you've lost the right to even say the word "Constitution."
You've almost certainly lost the vast majority of the support of the biggest progressive website in the world which, last I checked, was a rather large reason you're sitting in those Congressional seats right now.
You can no longer pop on here, post about all the great things you're planning to do, how hard you're planning to fight for us, and then expect us to say "Thank you."
You've lost the status of Progressive leaders.
You've lost the respect of Democratic, Liberal, and Progressive constituents all over the country.
In summary, capitulating Democratic cowards, you've lost our trust.
Hope whatever you "gained" was worth everything you just lost, but honestly I really fucking doubt that it was.
