Yeah, it's still VERY early to be thinking about 2008 congressional races, but there's some potentially very good news here in upstate New York: there won't be a primary on our side in the very winnable 29th district race.
This is the district where frequent Kos contributor Eric Massa came ohsoclose to knocking troglodyte one-term Republican Randy Kuhl out of the House a year ago.
Massa, bless him, has been running like crazy ever since, staying visible all over this huge gerrymandered district, and today we learned that the one serious Democratic challenger standing in the way of a Kuhl-Massa rematch has decided not to run. David Nachbar, a Rochester-area Democrat who's an executive at Bausch & Lomb, says he's too busy with the impending sale of B&L to make a full-scale tilt for the nomination.
So now it's Eric's race to win, especially since Kuhl (known up here in the Rochester end of the district for fleeing from citizens at "open forums") hasn't even said if he'll run again.
It won't be easy, but there are a lot of us ready to go to work early and hard to tint the House a little bluer next year - and to give the sainted Louise Slaughter (NY-28) some company!
