Plenty of people on this blog like to hop up and down on Joe Biden given the slightest opportunity, and they do so in downright Bill O'Reilly-esque ways: parrot the tired old myth that he's run for president a number of times (fact check: this is only his second run), and refer to "his" bankruptcy bill (fact check: it was Grassley's bill, of which Biden was neither a co-sponsor nor even remotely the only Democrat who voted for it). This week's half-truth: that Biden "didn't answer" the widow's question about mine safety. Fact check: he did answer the question, albeit briefly. He said (1) he empathizes with her as someone who lost his wife and daughter, and (2) he would make the Sago investigation's recommendations mandatory by law. You can't get much more detail than that in a 30 second soundbite, so he settled for the 15 second one before (admittedly inartfully) returning to the Pakistan question.
Still, Biden felt bad about not being able to spend more time on the answer, and Keith Olbermann himself admitted some culpability in setting up the whole uncomfortable situation. Check out the video from Wednesday night's Countdown below:
