I am sure that many members of this community are familiar with the American Family Association (afa.net). They recently have allowed comments to be posted to their "news" stories. As an aside, it is interesting how much they use the AP. Never McClatchy (spelling?), though. Anyway, after the fold.
I responded to two stories. One was about the Evangelical Lutherans' decision to accept homosexuals into the fold (by the way, I support that decision although I am neither Lutheran nor gay, but that is a topic for another diary). Let me see if I get the link thing going, if not, please go to afa.net. I think that everyone in this community should monitor that hate site, by the way, so even if I can make the link work, visit it daily, and flood it with progressive (please be polite and cogent) comments. Digressing again the link is: http://www.onenewsnow.com/
There were lots of chapters and versus quoted, but my comment, which unfortunately I did not copy, was pretty much about not eating catfish or shrimp, and not wearing poly/cotton clothing. Those of you who know the part of the Old Testement will immediately realize that none of those activities are permitted, and deserve the same stoning death and homosexual activities involve. Careful about that seafood! You that are familiar with my posts could ask for me to send the recipe for dynamite cocktail sauce, by the way, and no charge. Maybe in the poll.
Anyway, as of ten minutes ago, my comments were not posted at afa.net to the best of my knowledge.
The second post had to do with with Time Magazine, hope that this link works as well. http://www.onenewsnow.com/...
The author of this wonderful literary piece takes offense at Time magazine (certainly not one on my top list) for putting Billy Graham's head just under the "M" of "TIME", thus putting horns on him. Last time that I looked, there was no response from the flock for the exact same thing that they did for Bill Clinton years ago. How fast memories fade. No comment, not an issue, just "liberals" attacking Brother Billy.
Let me say this about him now: I hope that the man recovers. I wish ill on no one. I have issues with his ideas, but issues should never transcend human kindness, and think that most of this community would agree, regardless of what a Nixon supporter that he was.
Finally, and I know that this has been long, PLEASE sign up of afa.net. You have to give your email, so create a little used hotmail one. Deluge their folks with progressive thoughts. This is not to short them out at all. It is to reach out to the person reading the email, to make her or him think. We can, if we are united AND KIND, and I will repeat, KIND, get those folks (usually youths in a church group) to THINK! Not a bad calling, I would say.
As always, my warmest regards to this amazing and creative community. Just never injure innocents. Warmest regards, Doc.
