(Attention Minnesotans, Kentuckians and Arizonans - but not JUST for you :-)
If you live in the state of any of the Republican senators who are up for re-election in 2008, you can put (legitimate) pressure on them today by calling or e-mailing your local newspaper and urging them to get a straight answer from the senator on why Larry Craig should resign but David Vitter shouldn't.
In particular, they really need to press for straight answers on this from Norm Coleman of Minnesota and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, as Republican minority leader. Coleman called for Craig to resign and McConnell stripped Craig of his committee assignments and requested an Ethics Committee investigation of Craig. SURELY that much is in order for prostitute-scandal Vitter.
Ask for the city desk. Writing a letter to the editor would be an added plus.
Why did I mention Arizona? As many of you know, McCain is one of the other prominent Republicans who called for Craig to resign. John Ensign of Nevada "suggested" it too.
If you live in Idaho, maybe your local newspaper would be willing to make the call to McConnell and the others who want Idaho to lose Craig's seniority but not Louisiana -- nice double standard eh?
To save time for your newspapers (and talk radio?), here are phone numbers for some of these senators --
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell - (202) 224-2541
Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott - (202) 224-6253
Senator John McCain - (202) 224-2235
Senator Norm Coleman - 202-224-5641
If you've seen anyone in the media actually covering or mentioning this angle, please post a link in the comments!
