That’s what U.S. Representative Phil Hare (IL) told me today at the Labor Day Parade when I asked him about the $50 bil in additional funds for the War
"Not one more Damn dime until we get a date from this administration for certain withdrawal from Iraq." I hugged him and thanked him...Rep Hare continued, "and I do not mean a date in 2020 and I do not mean next September! We are on our 5th next September."
He then told me about the mother of an Iraqi soldier from Bunkerhill, IL that he had spoken with. Phil was clearly upset, recounting that she had told him about an email her son had sent her, two days before he was killed. In the email he told his mom that the soldiers were being told their mission was to ‘Not Get Killed Today.’
Rep. Hare also talked about the war report card.... "3 out of 18....What would a kid in school get on a test if he got 3 out of 18...an F....not another dime!"
Thank you Phil Hare for standing up to the President and so clearly stating why.
Unfortunately I did not get a similar answer when I talked to my Senator Dick Durbin last Thursday. Senator Durbin was at a House Party for Barack and I asked if he would vote "NO" to the $50 bil, ...he went around the question like in the Tribune article......"This is a tough one for me and my colleagues....we do not want to cut funding to our troops in the field" I then said Senator Durbin I am Begging you to VOTE NO, 70% of the people back you on a No vote, Stand up to President Bush, the war will not end until we cut off funds...he again responded...this is a tough one.
Yes it is tough.......for the soldiers stuck in Hell . Yes it is tough...for the American Economy going bankrupt over this war!!
I plan to continue to ask my Congressmen for a "NO" vote on more Iraq War $$$$$...
I hope others will too.
