It is so close to happening. Thanks in part to extra attention since Yearly Kos, combined with the steady death march of the right-wing noise machine, Daily Kos is now poised to register more page views than the freakin' Drudge Report, the once-mighty purveyor of conservative spin, as shown on this oh-so-tantalyzing Alexa chart:
Victory is a rising blue streak.
And you can help defeat the Drudge Report for good.
ACTION: PARTICIPATE
Much like the Nielsen system for television, Alexa gets its data directly from media consumers. Instead of the Nielsen box, anyone is invited to download the Alexa toolbar.
The main benefit of downloading the Alexa toolbar is that you get counted. And if it's downloaded en masse, you get counted big. For example, one day on the social news site Digg.com, a user submitted an item showing Digg had come close to a competing website on Alexa. Everyone recommended the item. Two days later, Alexa showed that both Digg and its competitor had shot up in traffic, with Digg now clearly leading. All that had happened was that a lot of Digg users decided to download the toolbar, and they got counted. (They also visited their competitor.)
If the same thing happened on Daily Kos, not only would Daily Kos climb the charts, but so would our "competitors" -- every other progressive website we visit -- in a big blue rising tide lifting up every great little local blog, every underrated national blog (Go Digby!), and every other website fighting against the right wing. And regardless of its flaws, advertisers look at Alexa.
So if you want to get counted, download the toolbar. If you want to get counted big, rec this diary and have everybody download the toolbar!
And when we do defeat Drudge, we may just find that we've finished off Fox News, too:
Can you taste it?
