Up to now Senator Durbin, the 2nd ranking Democrat in the Senate, has been a good lieutenant to Harry Reid. Durbin is now breaking from Reid on our most pressing immediate issue: the war.

Assistant Senate Majority Leader Dick Durbin promised today that he would no longer vote to fund the war in Iraq unless the money is tied to a withdrawal strategy....
Durbin’s commitment--and a forceful speech he delivered against new funding for Bush’s war strategy--positions an influential Senate leader in favor of a hard line at a moment when some Democrats are signaling a willingness to compromise on war funding
"Some Democrats" = Harry Reid, the majority leader. It's time to kick him (and aparently Nancy Pelosi) to the curb: If he won't lead, he should not be the majority "leader".
Any ideas for how to start a campaign to make Durbin the new majority leader in the Senate? Even if it could not happen until 2009, the rumblings alone might be enough to make Reid remember we support fighting Democrats not wimpy ones....
