Once upon a time there was a General named Petraeus who was placed in charge of a war in a land very far from his home. It was quite rough, fighting off in this war, and Petraeus missed his family a lot.
But he kept his spirits up because he was sure his commander-in-chief's recent surge was a Good Thing™ - sure, some people didn't believe this. But Petraeus did, with all his heart. And so he waited ever so patiently for Magical September, which he knew to be just around the corner.
"Oh! If I can just make it to Magical September, I know shrubya will be pleased!" thought Petraeus For Magical September, you see, was that special time when Petraeus just knew the surge would finally be accepted and all would be okay with shrubya's war in the land very far away from home.
In fact, there was only one thing standing between Petraeus and all the splendor of Magical September's victory: he still had to testify in front of Congress! This made him a little nervous, because some Very Mean People™ had been saying very bad things about Petraeus, his friend shrubya and their precious surge.
"What gall!" shrubya said. "How dare they!" Petraeus replied. "Congress! Bah!" snarled Papa Cheney as he entered the room where the two men were talking. "We'll just spruce your evaluation up as need be, Petraeus. Don't you worry about ol' Congress and those other naysayers."
shrubya heaved a sigh of relief. "Papa Cheney's the greatest!" Petraeus, relieved to have help writing this burdensome report, was inclined to agree. Petraeus now knew his words would be all that was needed to prove the surge successful! Newly inspired by this show of support, he vowed to give the most surgetastic testimony Congress had ever seen!
Yay Magical September!
You can catch Petraeus' cheerleading report on C-SPAN 3. And please to be joining us here in the Liveblog sandbox!
Per C-SPAN:
Today's and tomorrow's hearings will be rebroadcast at 10:00 pm EDT on C-Span. Tomorrow's Senate hearings are "Status of War in Iraq":
Foreign Relations (Biden) - 9:30 am EDT; Armed Services (Levin) - 2:00 pm EDT.
But first, a few rules:
For this first diary, please wait until about 150 comments, and then look for the next one.
No pictures! - not a one and yes; this includes you.
Please only post transcriptions as replies to the first comment.
New diaries usually pop up when the comments get to around 250ish.
So, we're still ironing out some kinks with this new liveblog system stuff. Marcus Tullius was clever enough to set up an email account for us to use: liveblogdkos at gmail.com
Suggestions (even nerds like us can't keep up with everything C-SPAN does), flames, tips, liveblogging logistics, etc. - that email addy is the cat-herding clearinghouse.
; )
So, speaking of diary volunteers...hey - where's everybody going?!?? If you would like to post one for the continued enjoyment of Petraeus' water carrying, give a shout out.
If you are so kind as to volunteer a diary:
a) thank you!
b) there is no required format, just please do provide the C-SPAN link and broadcast time. some people, for continuity's sake, like to just copy the previous diary, but don't feel like you have to - if you want to have fun with it, knock yourself out. I do.
: p
c) please help us keep updated by emailing liveblogdkos at gmail when you post your diary. alternately, feel free to IM me, Cedwyn, or whoever else is on duty and freely sharing their AIM name. either works and it would be super-duper helpful for staying on top the diaries.
Thanks!
d) but, please, purty please do help us standardize things somewhat by including the list of admonitions* and preserving the transcription section format.
*List of admonitions:
Please do not rec this diary - the main Liveblog is the only one to rec.
No pictures - not a one and yes; this includes you.
Please reply to the first comment only with transcriptions.
New diaries usually pop up when the comments get to around 250
On to the sandbox! Please rec this diary as our rec list anchor to keep up with all this throughout the day.
