ATTN: CA Voters. SOS Debra Bowen Wants to Talk to You!

With the 2008 election cycle fast approaching us, everyone is concerned about their votes being counted, not just expeditiously, BUT ACCURATELY!
I just received this e-mail from "Rick Jacobs, Courage Campaign" <>
Whether or not you are a California voter, this rare opportunity for a conference call with California Secretary of State Debra Bowen should inspire all of you who reside and vote in CA, to participate in ensuring the validity of the election process, but especially the Democratic activists here who call Dkos home, no matter what state they are from.
Please follow me under the fold for the text of her letter, and help make YOUR VOTE COUNT IN '08!

"Debra Bowen was elected Secretary of State in November as a netroots/grassroots candidate, the only statewide elected woman and a true Courage Campaign progressive hero.
Now, Secretary Bowen is responsible for assuring that California's votes count and are counted. She is already off to an incredible start and wants to tell you all about it.
This Monday at 4 p.m., please join us for an open discussion with Secretary Bowen, as she shares with us the historic work she has done to protect our vote as well as her upcoming plans
Secretary Bowen has garnered headlines across the country for her "Top to Bottom Review" of California's electronic voting machines. The results, exposing gaping security holes, were so shocking that she moved immediately to decertify thousands of machines. Since then, she has started an investigation into the illegal sale of non-certified voting machines to numerous California counties.

Debra Bowen has been working hard to ensure we have fair, safe and secure elections. This is a rare chance for you to hear directly from Secretary Bowen about her work protecting our votes and her plans for the THREE, count them THREE, elections next year.

Join Courage Campaign and Debra Bowen for a special conference call on Monday at 4 p.m. Space on the call is limited so hurry to reserve a phone line before we run out:
More details are below.

This is a great opportunity for a follow-up to the call we did with Secretary Bowen back in March.
Again, space is limited. I hope you will join us for this unique opportunity to speak with one of our own, a true progressive leader, Secretary of State Debra Bowen.
Thank you for all of the work you continue to do with the Courage Campaign to protect our democracy by protecting our elections.
Rick Jacobs

P.S. In March, Courage Campaign launched a special "Election Protection California" group on our web site. The purpose of this forum is to stay in touch with Secretary Bowen as well as empower you to work with each other on election protection issues in California. More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

this is going to scroll off the page especially since CA voters may just be opening their eyes (except those in LA and Orange with their 2-hour commutes who missed because they've already been on the road for 45 minutes).

More important to keep this issue in the spotlight.  I'll pass it on to my family members (Laguna Beach and SF).

  •  My Question I submitted (0+ / 0-)

Secretary Bowen, the proposed ballot initiative for California that would change the way in which electoral votes are divided up in presidential elections is unconstitutional. Article II Section I explicitly states that each state shall appoint a number of electors "in such manner as the Legislature thereof may direct". The method in which elecors are chosen may NOT be changed by ballot initiative, it MUST be changed by the legislature. My question is, are you going to allow the GOP to get away with this dirty trick?

You cannot sedate all that you hate.
