According to CNN, retired Federal Judge Michael Mukasey will be nominated as the new Attorney General by President GW Bush.
I googled Michael Mukasey. He served on the District Court for the Southern District Court of NY. He was originally nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Looking at old articles in the NY Times, he seems to take a somewhat jaded view of some of the actions of President Bush; specifically, the government case against Jose Padilla. In April, 2003, he ruled that the government's designation of Padilla as an "enemy combatant" could be appealed to the Circuit Court of Appeals. A month before that Mukasey ruled that Padilla was allowed to meet with his lawyers despite the government's attempt to not allow him to do that.
Perhaps, Mr. Bush has picked a decent candidate for AG? I guess we'll see.
