The Dixie Chicks once said they were embarrassed to be from the same state as the Resident of the White House. (I don't call him President, he has not earned the respect that position requires.) I am embarrassed to be from the same country as that man and his followers.
Yesterday, in Washington, DC and all over this once-proud nation of ours, was a day of protest. At least a hundred thousand Anti-war activists joined in a protest rally and march to the Capitol. In my small town of Grass Valley, CA, we held a similar, albeit smaller demonstration. Americans have had enough of this war, and the war-mongerers who would like it to be a never-ending, open-ended occupation.
The Rally in Washington was organized by A.N.S.W.E.R., and I would like to say "thank you!" to that collective group of patriots.
What I don't understand is, the fact that there were metal barricades lining both sides of the streets which the demonstrators marched. Like cattle, the Anti-war masses were kept in line, while a much smaller group of pro-war lemmings (lead by Gathering of Eagles and Free Republic) lined the protest route, unencumbered by "barricades" of any sort. These Freepers, or "Patriots" as they called themselves in their rally (check it out on Cspan.org, if you have a strong stomach), were allowed to move about the streets at will, they were not corralled in any way. It seemed to me that these people were told to line the protest route and taunt the Anti-war people. No wonder there were altercations taking place all day long. This was planned chaos, such as the war in Iraq is. I smell Karl Rove.
And of course, the media followed, like the kool-aid chugging, lemmings they are; spinning the truth to suit their leader. Faux News implied the march was full of "college kids", and resembled a party atmosphere. CNN called the counter-protesters "Pro-troops", as if the anti-war group was against the troops. I am embarrassed to live in America.
