John Edwards continues to lead in trying to stop this war now and begin redeployment before 2009.
In a statement today, he endorsed use of a filibuster to get a timetable for withdrawal. If the Republicans can use it, why can't Democrats? Why do we always fight with one hand tied behind our back?
"Congress must use every instrument available to them, including a filibuster, to pass this bill with a timetable for withdrawal."
John Edwards
"In light of Congress' recent failures to pass bills requiring the president to withdraw our troops from Iraq, I repeat my call to Congress to remain focused and steadfast.
"Congress has the power to stop this war through their Constitutional funding authority - and they should use it by tying any war funding bills to a firm deadline that would withdraw all American combat troops from Iraq. For the sake of the brave men and women in our military, Congress must not cave to President Bush.
"Congress must use every instrument available to them, including a filibuster, to pass this bill with a timetable for withdrawal. And if the president vetoes that bill, Congress should send it to him again. And they should do this as many times as it takes for the president to finally understand he cannot reject the will of the American people on this critical issue. Congress must continue to send the president the simple and clear message: No timetable, no funding. No excuses. "
John Edwards
We need a few Senators with courage to filibuster against Bush's war and some with backbone to support it.
Last week John Edwards addressed the nation in response to Bush's address, using his own campaign's limited funds to buy TV time in order to rally support against Bush's endless bloodshed and death in Iraq:
Our troops are stuck between a president without a plan to succeed and a Congress without the courage to bring them home.
But Congress must answer to the American people. Tell Congress you know the truth - they have the power to end this war and you expect them to use it. When the president asks for more money and more time, Congress needs to tell him he only gets one choice: a firm timeline for withdrawal.
No timeline, no funding. No excuses.
It is time to end this war.
Remember Send the Same Bill Back in May? It still is right:
It is time to end this war.
Use all means to do so.
No excuses."

Act Blue: Bloggers for John Edwards
As one who opposed the Vietnam war, Nicaraguan war, El Salvadorian war, and many other "police actions" and covert wars, and opposed the planned invasion of Iraq in 2002 and the actual invasion in 2003, marched against it, stood with candles at a MoveOn rally the nights before before the invasion, go to peace vigils and anti war rallies, give money to anti-war causes, I fully support John Edwards as THE anti-war candidate.
UPDATE: Audio of John Edwards on the Ed Schultz Show today. He mentions the fillibuster, but mostly it's about his Education Plan, a little on Universal Health Care and then Iraq.
