On December 2, 2006, six black teen-age boys brutally assaulted a white teenager who had allegedly made fun of one of them the previous week.

The ring-leader of the group of teens who committed the crime appears to be a young man named Mychal Bell. Mychal Bell savagely kicked the victim several times in the head while he was lying on the ground.
The victim, Justin Barker, lost consciousness as a result of his injuries.
The boys who committed the crime were arrested, tried, and convicted of attempting to kill Barker. No one disputes the fact that the six black teenagers beat and kicked a white boy who had no weapon and no means to protect himself against 6 assailants.
Before I hear a single diatribe about what kind of sentence a group of white assailants would have received, I'd like for every reader to stop and think about what kind of sentence 6 white teenagers would receive if they ganged up on a single black teenager, beat him to the ground, and then repeatedly kicked him in the head all because he had made fun of one of the boys the week before.
6 white teenagers. Do you really think that they wouldn't be charged with attempted murder? Certainly, this incident would have national, if not international TV coverage. 6 white teenagers ganging up on a black teenager in a town where there were racial tensions.
Mychal Bell will not get one dollar of my money for his legal defense. David Bowie is encouraging race-based violence by donating $10,000 to the defense of a man who needs to spend some time in jail in order for him to realize that he is NOT a hero. He is a criminal and he deserves to be treated like one. Hopefully with a long sentence in the big house.
For all of you who think that "the Jena Six" are worth fighting for, remember this: they are all criminals. All six of them. They don't understand that you can't gang up on someone and kick him in the head just because he may have said something unkind to one of them the week before.
Sticks and stones, people.
