Quote of the Week from Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL)
"Alberto Gonzales wouldn't tell you what time it was if you asked him."
Quote of the Week 2 Acting Governor Codey (D-NJ) on the NJ GOP reform platform:
This is the same platform the Republicans ran on 16 years ago. History shows us that during the 10 years they ran the statehouse, they did none of this. Now all of a sudden they want to be reformers? That's like saying Britney Spears is tired of partying and wants to be a cloistered nun."
TNR's profile of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) is a good read.
Laura Rozen is on top of the faked interviews by Alexis Debat. There seems to be more to it than a douchebag who faked interviews with Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, and others. Click here.
George W. Bush is uniquely unsuited for the presidency.
Given the amount of sex on TV, you might find it odd that ads for contraception have a tough time making it on air. link
Brian Williams talks about his early days as a volunteer firefighter and his current job. Interesting stuff.

Al Gore's CurrentTV gets a new website 10/15.
Most gay-friendly newspaper chain? NYT.
The Times Co. scored a "perfect" 100 in the HRC Index. Cox Communications was rated a 95. Gannett Co. was rated 65, and Dow Jones & Co. was scored as 30.
Where will you find very few gay people in the newsroom? NY Post.
The consensus among the Posties I spoke with is that the paper doesn't discriminate in its hiring. Rather, the paucity of gay employees results from the Post's stridently anti-P.C. editorial tone and frathouse office atmosphere. "It's not a culturally welcoming environment," says the ex-editor. "It's a locker-room environment -- raucous, sexist, quite misogynist."
Some of it flows from editor in chief Col Allan, whom the ex-editor describes as an equal-opportunity offender: "He makes everyone feel uncomfortable. Any weakness or perceived difference he dumps on. He's the kind of guy who can make racist and sexist jokes and get away with it."
Congrats to 60 Minutes. Their 40th season starts Sunday, 9/23
Remainders...
Congrats to the 2007 Emmys winners. Here are some photos and a video of Stephen Colbert and his wife Evie on the red carpet. They're so cute together. I love how her Wriststrong bracelet has rhinestones on it. They were photographed with Jon & Tracey Stewart at an after party here. Al Gore was there to pick up his Emmy and gave a nice acceptance speech, and you can watch Jon Stewart, Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert hug it out here. Jon Stewart and his wife talk to Ryan Seacrest here (HT NoFactZone). Sally Field's speech can be viewed here. The writer's nomination montage is one of the highlights every year. Here it is:
Stephen Colbert opens up about his childhood. Great article. Made me wanna give little Stephen Colbert a hug.
I still can't get over the 80s photos and vids of CNN anchor John Roberts, or as he was known back in the day, J.D. Roberts.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver's 3 kids at the Teen Vogue Young Hollywood party photos.
Brad Pitt visited the WaPo newsroom Friday to do research for an upcoming movie role. He also saw a frat buddy (investigative reporter James Grimaldi) there. So basically, Brad Pitt was within a, um, er, 5 mile radius of where I work. Angelina Jolie, meanwhile, talked with Colin Powell and Condi Rice about her trip to Iraq and Syria. I didn't see either Pitt or Jolie in town, but I have spied 3 frequent Hardball guests on the metro before. Whoop-dee-doo.
Dr. James Andrews just might be the most important person in sports.
