Yep, gave up. I wrote the DNC the other day, withdrawing my support for the Democratic Party.
The current House and Senate leadership is a joke. The rest of them can't figure out who to side with. I'm sure I'll get some flak for this, and so be it. But you've got to give the Republicans one thing: they know how to come together and present a unified front on any given topic. The Dems look like the proverbial chicken sans head, running and flopping around, unable to stand united against this president and his congressional minions.
If there were a viable third party of true Progressives, I would consider supporting them. But the Democrats ain't it, and I'm done with them as a party. In my letter, I stated that they would not receive another penny from me, but it goes deeper than that. They have let me down so many times that I cannot associate myself with the party anymore. Yes, I am a Liberal. Yes, I consider myself a Progressive. But no, I am no longer a Democrat.
I know there are others out there who feel as I do. And yet, you keep supporting the same losing team, hoping that one day a magic switch will be thrown and they'll suddenly learn how to play as a team, and begin winning games. And there will always be the die-hards.
Call me a "fair-weather fan" if you like. (And I promise I'll stop with the sports metaphors now.) I just can't take it anymore. Every day brings another disappointment, another kick in the gut, another instance of House or Senate Dems capitulating to Repubs, failing to unite behind a message or bill or motion, and another chance for Repubs and the mainstream media to call the Dems losers, or worse, traitors.
Well, I'm sick of it. And since my letters and phone calls mean little to the Democratic representatives and senators that I write, maybe because I'm not a constituent (my senators and reps are all Repubs), I don't think there's any point in continuing. I don't have a voice to represent me, and I'm tired of sending out messages-in-a-bottle to the Dems that don't view me as a constituent AND fail to live up to standards that I don't really consider too high to aim for.
Anyone interested in starting a new party for lost Progressives like me?
