Good evening friends.
Tonight let's look at the newest winger rage and that is "Islamofascism Awareness Week" upcoming for the week of October 22.
Festivities galore are planned! Speeches by notable wingers, and lots of belching and farting on the wingnut blogs promises to be just a "joyous" orgy of racially charged religious hate. Let's take the jump and look a little closer.
Earlier today I noted a story from USA Today about divisions becoming worrisome within America's generally 'monolithic' Islamic community. American Muslims tend to be less likely to have prejudices about Sunni, and Shia, and Sufi believers than anywhere else in the world. Because of this solidarity, American Muslims have become quite successful and well adjusted, and the thought of sudden disunity has to be alarming to the community leaders.
My question asked who might gain from an outbreak of disunity among the generally well organized, and aside from a radical cleric here and there, very peacable Muslim community.
Well Sadly, No! has a possible answer. Now let's take a look at Gavin's posting...special hat tip to Atrios.
1, Note the speaker list in the posting: Rick Santorum; Hannity; Coulter-geist; Denis Prager; Robert Spencer; Daniel Pipes; and a who's who of neo-cons and associated hangers-on addressing students and 'true believers' on some of the most prestigeous campuses in the nation.
But the key that really got to me was the picture that Gavin had of a woman in Iran, on her way to being stoned to death...being partially buried in advance. It's a powerful photo; enraging to western sensibilities....one problem...the photo is complete bullshit! It is an outtake from a 1994 Dutch Indy movie entitled, De Steen directed by Mahnaz Tamizi and starring lovely Smadar Monsinos.
With Iran all hot on the mind of Fox Noise and assorted wingers including the 'king of the wingnuts' himself, Charles Johnson, who by the way is all atwitter about this crazy Islamofascism wank-a-thon, I cannot help but wonder if the problems with Shia/Sunni divisions reputedly caused by immigrants may not be from sources so outside afterall, but much closer to home. David Horowitz comes to mind with his shrill and widespread splashing of poor Smadar being prepped for the rocks, all over his FrontPageMagazine.
Daniel Pipes is another Muslim hater with connections to the media. Add in Ledeen, Coulter, Hannity and a cast of characters like them and it is easy to see where a story made to make people go "Oh oh, Muslims fighting among themselves, over here!" less than a month out from the wingnut anti-Islam fart-a-thon week might come from. it seems a bit suspicious to me. {Remember the Bushist bromide about fighting them there to keep from fighting them here? If they are fighting here then...I think you get the drift.}
As I asked this morning, and as I ask again, Cui Bono?
