I was perusing my local progressive state blog site and came across this wonderful article. Guess the Senate Now has to censure true conservatives as well.
In an article published in Raising Kaine I guess MoveOn was an inspiration for all (they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery). Luckly the author of the article survived her near brush with death by strangulation by latte.
The article cited noted how conservatives seem to have jumped on the MoveOn band wagon as the oh so honorable and untouchable Gen. Petraeus is now a syncophant. Basically the article said the same thing about Petreaus as the MoveOn ad did, so let's wait to see if there is a third condemnation motion call in the Senate? Many noted when the initial outraged cries from Republicans arouse over MoveOn's ad that it was a smoke screen and diversion from the real issue.....our troops getting needlessly maimed and butchered while the Republican members of Congress obstructed and blocked any real change in Iraq.
If the civilian leadership is unwilling to provide what's needed, then all of the talk about waging a global war on terror-talk heard not only from the president but from most of those jockeying to replace him-amounts to so much hot air. Critics who think the concept of the global war on terror is fundamentally flawed will see this as a positive development. Once we recognize the global war on terror for the fraudulent enterprise that it has become, then we can get serious about designing a strategy to address the threat that we actually face, which is not terrorism but violent Islamic radicalism. The antidote to Islamic radicalism, if there is one, won't involve invading and occupying places like Iraq.
This defines Petraeus's failure. Instead of obliging the president and the Congress to confront this fundamental contradiction-are we or are we not at war?-he chose instead to let them off the hook.
Even the publiser of this Conservative magazine Pat Buchanan strongly decried MoveOn's charachure of the General a slur on our forces. Yet in the same breath Buchanan and many conservatives have spoken against this war from the start. More loudly then many so called "liberal" Democrats. (I am no fan of Buchanan trust me there). I guess the next important Senate vote overriding all other Senate business will be a resolution condeming The American Conservative.
Which brings to question this idea. Is Congress telling us the First Amendment is no longer applicable. As much as I detest Rush Knucklehead's remarks, it seems all three political groups have been hit here. Except that religous group that disrupted the Hindu cleric's prayer in the Senate. You figure it out. syncophant
